The Church as a Learning Community

The church is a space where people are supposed to be growing and being shaped and formed to become more like Jesus, more mature and more connected to God and each other and more engaged in God’s mission of helping the world know Jesus. This is how the early church was organized and reorganized! In this sermon, pastor Luke explored the types of characteristics that are important for a church to be able to encourage growth.

The Church as a Missional Ship, Navigating toward the Kingdom

In Matt. 16:18, Jesus said that he would build his Church. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesians that church leaders would equip the Church to build the Church. 

In this sermon, pastor Luke talked about how a beautiful metaphor for the Church is that of a ship, yet the ship is a missional ship and it's navigating toward the Kingdom. 

The Church is a Garden

The Bible uses many mataphors and pictures to describe what the Church is. In this sermon, pastor Luke explored how the picture of a garden or vineyard is very fitting for the community of God's kingdom. 

God is Near the Brokenhearted: The Stoll FIre

The Stoll Fire caused a significant amount of loss for the city of Red Bluff. In order to process this event, pastor Luke spent some time talking about suffering and the work of the Spirit, pressing into Psalm 34:18. We also spent time praying together.

The story of David and Goliath, found in 1 Samuel 17, is one of the most well known stories from the Old Testament! In this sermon pastor Luke told the story with great detail and explained why it is such an encouraging story for the Church!

In Luke 11:1-13, Jesus teaches on the priorities of prayer and shares how his followers will be both persistent and passionate about God's kingdom and the work of the Spirit! Hearing from God: Learning the Language of the Spirit

In Acts 2 we read that after the Holy Spirit was poured out on the Church, the Church was in unity around Jesus and his mission. Yet often times when we speak about the Spirit, we speak only in terms of salvation and empowerment. What about the need to discuss the Spirit's role in the midst of conflict?
